Apple has officially launched its much-anticipated iPhone 17 lineup, introducing a suite of hardware and design upgrades aimed at redefining the user experience. The announcement came during Apple’s fall event, where it revealed not only the base model but also the iPhone 17 Pro, Pro Max, and a surprise new addition: the ultra-thin iPhone Air.
Major Enhancements Across the Board
The standard iPhone 17 brings several noteworthy improvements. It now sports a 6.3-inch Super Retina XDR display with ProMotion adaptive refresh rate up to 120 Hz, a first for the non-Pro tier. The display also offers greater brightness and thinner bezels.
Cameras see significant leaps: the rear dual setup now features 48-megapixel sensors, with “Fusion Main” and “Fusion Ultra Wide” lenses for better detail, wider frames and macro photography. On the front, the new Center Stage camera with an 18-MP square sensor adds intelligent framing for both portrait and landscape selfies, a boon for video and group shots.
Durability is improved via Ceramic Shield 2 glass, promising up to three times better scratch resistance. Performance is powered by Apple’s in-house A19 chip, and entry storage has doubled to 256 GB. Preorders for iPhone 17 begin September 12, with availability starting September 19.
Market Response, Pricing, and Availability
Pricing for the base iPhone 17 starts at US$799 with 256 GB storage. Preorders open globally on September 12; first deliveries are expected to begin September 19.
The Pro and Pro Max models offer further enhancements but come at higher cost. The Pro Max shipping date has already slipped in many configurations due to high demand, especially for special color versions and higher storage variants.
