Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana
The Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) continues to be one of India’s most impactful government initiatives in 2025. Launched in 2015 with the vision of “Housing for All,” the scheme has already transformed millions of lives.
In the Union Budget 2025-26, the government reaffirmed its commitment by announcing the construction of an additional 2 crore houses under PMAY-Gramin between 2024 and 2029, making it one of the most ambitious housing projects in the world.
PMAY Gramin 2025
The government restructured the Indira Awas Yojana (IAY) into the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G). It is also known as PMAY- Rural.
PMAY Gramin provides people staying in kutcha houses in villages in India with pucca houses.
The Modi 3.0 government announced construction of 2 crore houses under the PMAY-Gramin for five years that is till 2028-29.
Eligibility for PMAY Gramin 2025?
- All landless or homeless families.
- All families who have either one or two-roomed non-permanent (kaccha) housing. Also, a house’s walls and roofs must not be made of concrete.
- Any household which does not have a literate male member above 25 years of age.
- Any family which does not have a member between ages 15 and 59 years of age.
- Any family which has a disabled member is also eligible to avail of benefits under Pradhan Mantri Awas Gramin Yojana.
- Those who do not have a permanent job and only engage in casual labor.
- People from the minorities section as well as Scheduled Tribes and Castes are also included in this scheme.
