Raul Malo, the iconic lead singer of The Mavericks, has recently shared devastating news with fans. The singer revealed that his cancer has taken a serious turn, prompting the band to cancel most of their 2025 tour dates.

In a heartfelt statement released on September 24, 2025, Malo disclosed a new diagnosis: leptomeningeal disease (LMD), a rare and serious condition in which cancer spreads to the cerebrospinal fluid and the membranes surrounding the brain and spinal cord.
This update comes after Malo was initially diagnosed with colon cancer in June 2024. Following his initial diagnosis, Malo underwent surgery and chemotherapy, but the progression of his illness now requires further treatment, including radiation and potentially additional chemotherapy.
