The Story at the Heart of the Documentary
At the center of the film is Lauryn Licari, a 13-year-old girl who, along with her boyfriend Owen McKenny, began receiving relentless anonymous messages.
These texts ranged from explicit insults and threats to shocking encouragements of self-harm. For nearly two years, Lauryn and her community lived in fear, unable to escape the harassment.
Investigators, including local police and the FBI, eventually uncovered a twist that stunned not only Lauryn but the entire town of Beal City.
The source of the harassment turned out to be Lauryn’s own mother, Kendra Licari, who had been using apps and spoofed phone numbers to disguise her identity.
